Zurich: AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa will continue in his role as Chairman of the FIFA Development Committee for the next four years, FIFA announced on Thursday.
The Development Committee is one of the nine FIFA standing committees for which new members were appointed on Thursday, in accordance with the FIFA Statutes and the FIFA Governance Regulations.
Shaikh Salman stressed the importance of the role of the Development Committee to serve world football through helping the continental Confederations adopt programmes to develop the game all over the world.
The AFC President added that the Development Committee will continue to work hard in order to activate FIFA’s programmes in the Member Associations (MAs).
Shaikh Salman said: “For the past months the Development Committee has been doing preparatory work for the new advanced development programme which was approved by the FIFA Congress in Mexico. It gives the chance for the Member Associations and Confederations to receive funding for their development plans in a way that increases the annual contributions for the MAs, and guarantees the transparency in monitoring this support.”
The AFC President explained that during its term the Development Committee will prepare a structure for the advanced development programme in order to develop FIFA projects that will provide the best possible services for the Member Associations and Confederations. As part of the current process of cultural change, this will include increased transparency.
Shaikh Salman also hailed the support provided by FIFA President Gianni Infantino to the Development Committee, stressing the importance of cooperation and coordination between the Committee, the executive management of FIFA and the Member Associations and Confederations to achieve common goals.
