FIFA slams government's commission of enquiry into Black Stars World Cup fiasco
FIFA President Sepp Blatter.

FIFA has questioned the composition of a Commission of Enquiry to look into the performance of the Black Stars at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

The world football governing body says: “The composition and competences of commission are unclear ” and wants the Ghana Football Association to furnish them with details.

It looks like FIFA deems the three-member body announced by Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga as interference which could attract an indefinite ban.

Ghana president John Mahama through constitutional instrument 82 announced the commission with the powers of the high court to probe all activities surrounding the country’s participation at the World Cup including the management of the senior national team.

Leading lawyers in the country have expressed fears that the use of the CoE instead of the committee violates FIFA statutes which could lead to a ban on the country.

The Ghana FA says it will welcome a government inquisition but must be within the confines of FIFA laws to avoid further embarrassment for the country.

Ghana got ridiculed during the tournament after government airlifted US$ 3 million to settle the appearance fees of striking Black Stars players.

Below are details of the FIFA letter addressed to the Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi.

Dear President.

We have learnt from different media reports that the Presidency o f the Republic of Ghana had appointed a commission of enquiry and investigation into the Black Stars’ participation to the 2014 FIFA Word Cup in Brazil. The composition and the competences of the said committee are unclear.

Provided the reports are true, we deem it is important to clarify from the beginning the procedures and to ensure that the Ghana Football Association can operate without interferences as required by the FIFA Statutes.

Under these circumstances, we kindly ask you to provide us with a report at your earliest convenience.

We thank you in advance

Signed

Markus Kattner

Deputy Secretary General.
