Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis has said he is "proud of this club" for bringing striker Diego Costa back from Chelsea.
On Thursday, Atletico announced that they had reached an agreement with Chelsea for the return of the Spain international for an undisclosed fee.
Costa has not featured for Chelsea since the FA Cup final in May, and opted to remain in Brazil this summer rather than return to Cobham amid a bitter public dispute with the Premier League champions about his future.
And Marca reported Filipe Luis as saying: "I'm proud of this club for their effort in bringing in one of the three best strikers in the world.
"Wherever he has gone he has made history, and he arrives ready to work, fight and make us better. We are going to grow. I'm delighted that my friend is coming here."
The Brazil international said Costa, who had made it clear that he wanted to return to Atletico, has had "a complicated summer."
He added: "It's very important that he is here and he has chosen Atletico. He had a thousand offers, and he has chosen an Atletico that doesn't stop growing.
"He is going to do great, and I don't doubt that it will be the same Diego as always."
Midfielder Koke added: "We know how much he gave when he was here. He is a very important player in football, we know how he plays, and he will give us a lot.
"Each time I would pass the ball to him it would almost be a goal, and that is why I'm delighted like everyone in the team."
Atletico will reportedly pay €55 million (£48.5m) plus add-ons for Costa, surpassing the club-record €40m paid for Radamel Falcao in 2011.
Costa will not be able to play until January 2018, when the club's FIFA transfer ban ends and has not played an official game since Spain's 2-1 victory over Macedonia in a World Cup qualifier on June 11.
However, childhood friend Valmir Monteiro said he had been "working [in Brazil] with an Atletico Madrid physical trainer for more than 40 days in order to remain fit."
He told Cadena Ser radio: "He is an obedient player and doesn't do crazy things. He is a professional.
"He was certain that he would return to Spain. Thankfully, he is returning to his beloved club."
