Fiorentina coach Paulo Sousa was pleased with the performance of his team as they beat Sassuolo 3-1 in Florence on Sunday.

The 45-year-old was impressed with the manner the Gigliati won their latest Serie A fixture, displaying good work and determination in defence and up front.

“We had to go away from our game plan to win today,” Sousa told Radio RAI. “We have obtained a big win against an good side in Sassuolo side that are doing well.

“We did very well going forward, creating great chances, but also when we were defending.

“It was a closer game than what we had thought. I am happy for the guys, proud for the fans, and the club.”

An outrageous own goal scored by Andrea Consigli sealed the result for Fiorentina and Sousa was glad that his team was the beneficiary of the Sassuolo goalkeeper’s error.

I am happy that this time the luck went in our favour,” Sousa concluded.
