First-time captain Harrison Afful happy to lead Black Stars to win over Congo
Harrison Afful captained the Black Stars against Congo in Tuesday's friendly.

Harrison Afful is delighted to have tasted victory as captain of the Black Stars for the first-time in the 3-2 success over Congo on Tuesday in a friendly.

The Columbus Crew SC right back was handed the armband to lead the team with senior players Asamoah Gyan and Andre Ayew on the bench.

He led the team to take a 2-0 first half lead before the Congolese rallied to level the scoring and then popped up Jordan Ayew to snatch the winner in stoppage-time.

Afful late posted on his Instagram page: “Let the light in our hearts forever shine. Let the goodwill that we pride in be our humility so other may emulate.

“Victory is more sweet and pleasing when is made in history. Glad to lead my national team The Black Stars to victory and humbled wearing the captain's armband. #MoreLove.”

Afful has been a member of the Black Stars since 2010 and has now emerged the first choice at right-back.

The former WAFA (Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord Academy) player is also efficient as left-back.
