Football World Mocks Harry Kane Over Goal Claim
Harry Kane

When on Saturday 7th 2018, Christian Eriksen scored two goals to condemn Stoke City football club to defeat, one would have been pardoned for thinking it was just going to be another walk in the park, a normal Saturday for football enthusiasts. But alas, there was something brewing up behind the scenes at the bet365 stadium.

The football world was thrown into a funny frenzy by curious case of Harry Kane vs. The premier league. It’s not often out of place to find teams vying to get their players awarded goals they genuinely think said players scored. It is common sense to want to have every goal on your side of the divide.

Things will take a curious turn when it emerges that the goal in contention is already awarded to a player on the complainant’s team. This is what is currently cracking the world of football up. In the curious case of Harry Kane vs. The premier league, Kane is requesting that a goal scored by teammate Christian Eriksen be awarded to himself.

He claims that the said goal was actually scored by him. His claim states that there was contact between his shoulder and the ball, thereby changing the trajectory and as such leading to the goal been scored. Harry Kane had this to say “I swear on my daughter’s life that I touched the ball, but there is nothing I can do”.

The football world was having none of that though with numerous fans and pundits alike claiming it was indeed Eriksen’s goal. Their claim was that Kane wanted the goal in order to enhance his chances of winning a third consecutive golden boot.

The Golden boot is an award given to the top scorer in the premier league at the end of the season. Currently, Kane is five goals behind Egyptian and Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah. It is thought by both fans and pundits alike that by reason of desperately trying to cling onto the golden boot award, Kane and Tottenham Hotspur are trying to milk a goal for the striker.

Even though Spurs boss, Mauricio Pochettino claims that he does not care who secured the goal, rather that he only cares about the final score line, football enthusiasts still remain unconvinced.

Meanwhile, replays have not been so helpful as to decide whose goal it is, but as at Saturday the goal was officially given to Eriksen.

Goal Scorer Eriksen, who scored both goals for Tottenham during the match did say about Kane “He celebrated like it was his goal, so I will have to take his word for it”.

On his own part, Kane was behind on the goal scoring charts by an almost similar deficit last season but a sparkling run of form at the tail end of the season saw him pip Romelu Lukaku to the golden boot award back then.

While football has thrown up several funnies over the past decade, it remains to be seen if Harry Kane will get his goal, and also if the football world will ever let go of the mocking impression that since Spurs have not really been winning any titles, Kane is desperate for any individual honours he can get his hands on.

Regardless of the semantics surrounding this case, or if indeed Harry Kane might eventually be awarded the goal, it should be known that Harry Kane is an astounding striker and the football world is in for a treat as the next few weeks unfold. Whether it’s Salah who gets the award or if the aforementioned Harry Kane somehow finds a way to snatch it away as he did last season, this curious case is not going to be forgotten anytime soon.
