Former Arsenal captain Keown: I would join Gunners protest

Martin Keown has revealed that he would be involved in an Arsenal fan protest if it were to occur.

Liverpool great Jamie Carragher joined supporters in their walkout last weekend, protesting against the exorbitant ticket prices, and Keown says he would do the same.

Reds fans hit out at the club's owners, Fenway Sports Group, regarding £77 tickets for Anfield which has been heard loud and clear with the end result being that current ticket prices have now been frozen.

Regarding Arsenal's expensive ticketing, Keown does not believe the North London outfit will reduce costs anytime soon but if the Gunners faithful were to challenge the hierarchy, he would be there in full support.

When posed the following reader's question in the Daily Mail - 'Will Arsenal do the right thing and do what Liverpool have done in having a respectable matchday ticket price?' - Keown responded: "It doesn't sound like it, given what Arsene Wenger has been saying this week.

"He's right that so much money is spent on transfers and wages, but I think clubs have to be more prudent sometimes in what they spend. Because with the enormous TV deal next season, this is a really great opportunity to put the fans first.

"There are so many instances where fans are the last people to be considered. The cost of going to watch a game, the tickets, travel, overnight stays, fixtures being chopped and changed all the time, giving people ridiculous distances to travel, often at the last minute. We are not thinking about the fans anywhere near enough.

"My Sportsmail colleague Jamie Carragher made a stand by joining in the Anfield protests last week and if there was a similar one at Arsenal, I would follow suit. The clubs have to support what the majority of fans want and it's time to stand up for them.

"It's hard-earned money that's being spent and fans travel the length and breadth of the country to support their teams. They deserve to have their voices heard."
