Former Chelsea star Michael Essien set to extend Persib Bandung contract

Marquee signing Michael Essien is set to sign a one-year contract extension at Indonesian side Persib Bandung, his agent has hinted.

Amougou Mathieu says chances that the Chelsea legend could sign a new deal are 'very big'.

Essien, who joined the side on a free transfer, has established himself as one of the key players for the side in his first season.

The 34-year-old joined the Indonesian giants in a bumper deal in March this year on a one-year contract.

The Ghanaian appears to have now settled at the club after the initial struggles - where he has shown a tremendous professional touch.

And the agent, Amougou Matheu, who landed the Persib deal for Essien despite Fabien Piveteau remaining the agent of the former Real Madrid and AC Milan midfielder, has revealed the Ghana international will extend the deal if Persib put the offer on the table.

"Essien may survive here for next season, we'll see," said Mathieu.

"Not yet determined, but maybe Persib still need the experienced of Essien, we will deal with management," he explained.

Essien, who is the mainstay of the side this season, scored five goals and provided one assist.

The Ghanaian super star has signed an endorsement deal worth $500, 000 to be the face of German sportswear giants Adidas in the Asian country.
