Former Ghana FA vice-president George Afriyie has claimed has was coerced into staying on after his damning and infamous text message to his former boss.
Afriyie was yanked as the second most powerful person in Ghana football after an Executive Committee meeting last Tuesday.
The Liberty Professional director sent a damning text message to his former boss, labeling him 'greedy and wicked' to heighten the friction between the two personal personalities.
Many believe the infamous text messages coupled with issues with trust and loyalty resulted in his present predicament.
But he has rubbished the claims insisting he was advised to stay on by seven top officials.
"The decision to take me out is the sole decision of the FA president not that of the Executive committee, he told Asempa FM
"After my infamous text message to Mr Nyantakyi, I was going to followed it up with my resignation.
"But SEVEN top officials advised and asked me to stay on. The likes of Randy Abbey, Fred Pappoe, Sannie Daara, J.Y Appiah and others assuage me to stay on.
"I am not one of those who will betray Kwesi Nyantakyi. I have supported him ever since he became the FA president.
"I am just here to set the record straight. He (Nyantakyi) has done so well for Ghana football.
"He has made a lot of reforms and I'm ready to support him to go through with the reforms.
It appears the battle lines have been drawn for the two men ahead of next year's Ghana FA presidential election.
It's unclear if Mr Nyantakyi will seek re-election after publicly stating he will bow out.
But undue pressure from the ruling government and other stakeholders has thrown the battle wide opened.
