Former Black Stars winger Laryea Kingston has tipped Kwasi Appiah’s NEW Black Stars to end Ghana’s trophy-less run, a feat the West Africa side has been struggling to achieve.
Ghana have been chasing the Africa Cup of nations for the past 35 years after winning it in Libya in 1982.
The Black Stars, who have been tagged by many as the sleeping giants of Africa football, last came close to winning the trophy in 2015 but lost it to Ivory Coast through the lottery of penalty kicks.
Many have tipped the side to hung on to hope since they do not look like a side that will win the trophy any time soon.
But Laryea Kingston thinks otherwise, insisting the new team put together by Kwasi Appiah is capable of ending the trophy drought soon.
“Kwasi has put together very good and hungry players who are ready to die to achieve something. We just need to support them to make that objective achievable,” Laryea said during the Football Legends Night Show of GhOne TV on Friday.
Ghana new coach Kwasi Appiah invited 13 new players in his maiden call ups sending strong signals of his demand for competition in the team, a sign Laryea believes will help.
“With the new players in the team, each player will play to claim a position in the team and to sustain his stay. That competition is one of the things needed to win trophies for the country,” he added.
Ghana have started the 2019 AFCON qualifier on a superb note, mauling lowly-ranked Ethiopia by 5-0 in the opening game.
