Former Asante Kotoko board chairman Herbert Mensah has shown much concern in remembering the victims of the May 9 stadium disaster in 2001.
The tragedy, the worst to be recorded in Africa, saw 126 fans die at the Accra Sports Stadium during the league match between rivals Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.
It was during the tenure of Mensah when the incident occurred and it was double agony after Kotoko lost the match 2-1 courtesy a pair of goals by Hearts of Oakââ¬â¢s Ishmael Addo.
He is leading activities to mark the day in Kumasi and spoke emotionally about the importance of
ââ¬ÅThe most important people in football is not the football administrators, players, coaches but supporters,â⬠Mensah told Nhyira FM
ââ¬ÅIf we don't constantly remember this day and give the perished souls the respect, it would not be good for our football.ââ¬
Mensah wants to use Fridayââ¬â¢s walk to raise funds to support families of the deceased.
