Former Asante Kotoko vice chairman Kennedy “Capuccino” Agyapong says Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi cannot be blamed for the country’s World Cup fiasco.

The businessman wants those calling for his head to wait for the association’s congress next year.

Agyapong believes player indiscipline cost Ghana’s calamitous campaign in Brazil and not the FA chief.

“Some of the players don’t want to sacrifice and they do not respect like players such as Stephen Appiah and others did. They were money conscious and I think that let us down,” he is quoted by the Daily Guide.

“Those calling for his head accuse him of the falling standards in the local league which I disagree.

“In the past, quality players like Joe Debrah, Shamo Quaye, Emmanuel Armah, Prince Polley and others attracted fans to the stadia. Now, the few quality ones play for just a season and their clubs sell them to foreign clubs. So you go to the stadium and you don’t enjoy good soccer because there are no stars.

“Our excellent performances in previous World Cups have made Ghanaian players very attractive so foreign clubs chase them making our leagues weaker by the day.

“Some of us know how Nyantakayi’s presence on the CAF Executive Committee has benefited Ghana as a whole and so he should be encouraged.

“Everything points to the fact that he and his team have learnt form the Brazil experience, which I think will help take Ghana football to where we want it to be.

“I suggest all stakeholders must come together to look for solutions to address this problem to make our league stronger.”
