Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris has been unveiled as the new signing of French outfit Lorient.

The 23-year-old was presented to the media on Thursday in the company of the club’s vice-president Alex Hayes and manager Sylvain Ripoll.

The Ghana international was delighted to have joined the club and promised to play a key role in the club’s project this season.

Lorient beat rivals Stade Rennes to sign the speedster on a three-year-contract reportedly worth €5 million and have handed the 2014 FIFA World Cup Ghana striker jersey number 9 on his return to the Ligue 1.

Waris arrived in Paris on Wednesday afternoon ahead of a proposed move to Stade Rennes but reports from France claimed Lorient officials were on standby to whisk him away and have now made him their third signing for the upcoming season.

Lorient officials were keen to sign their long-standing target as replacement for Jordan Ayew who left the club on a €14 million move to English Premier League outfit Aston Villa last month.

Waris returns to the French top-flight following a loan spell at Valenciennes two seasons ago where he notched 9 league goals in 16 appearances.

However he failed to find his scoring form in Turkey where he failed to score in any of his 18 games for Trabzonspor who signed him to Russian side Spartak Moscow at the start of last season.

Waris will join the club’s pre-season squad immediately as the Ligue 1 campaign gears close to a start.
