Rumour has it Derek Boateng has been told to stay away from the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations as a condition before being offered a contract by Fulham.

The 29-year-old is in talks with the English outfit after undergoing a routine club medical on Wednesday.

Boateng as reported, will be offered a short term loan deal but must forfeit his participation at the 2013 Nations Cup before he is allowed to sign the dotted lines.

The development will come as a massive blow to the Black Stars who are already without Michael Essien, John Mensah and Sulley Muntari for the tournament to be hosted in South Africa.

This rumour also surfaces on the heel of news Yahaya Mohammed has been ruled out of the Nations Cup with a groin injury.

This has left coach Akwasi Appiah with only 25 players to work with at the intended training camp in Abu Dhabi.

It also brings the number of strikers in the team to three with only Asamoah Gyan, Richmond Boakye-Yiadom and Emmanuel Clottey remaining.

It is at this point unclear whether the rumour about Boateng is true but Fulham will be desperate to have their intended new signing play for the side from the onset.

He has however been called into the Ghana national team for the Nations Cup the Black Stars hope to win after a 31-year wait.
