Dortmund star Aubamenyang breaks Ghana’s Anthony Yeboah’s 22 years Bundesliga goals record

Borussia Dortmund forward Piere-Emerick Aubameyang is Africa’s top scoring player in the history of the German Bundesliga, beating Ghana’s Anthony Yeboah’s long standing 22 years 96 goals record.

Aubameyang has surpassed Anthony Yeboah, the former Eintracht Frankfurt forward, as the top-scoring African in Bundesliga history after finding the target against Werder Bremen on Saturday.

The Gabon striker – who finished the 2016/17 campaign as the Golden Boot winner with 31 goals, one more than Bayern Munich hitman and great rival Robert Lewandowski – moved onto 12 for the season with the strike bringing up his 97th all-time in the German top flight.

The 2015 African Player of the Year had not scored since the 3-2 loss to RB Leipzig on Matchday 8 prior to his hat-trick in the incredible 4-4 Revierderby draw with Schalke last month, which drew him level with Yeboah.

His Matchday 15 strike took him to the top of a list containing some illustrious names.

Yeboah’s record stood at 96 goals in 223 games for Frankfurt in his 5-year career with the side, and had been on contest since 1995 to be bettered.

With Aubameyang overtaking the Ghanaian legend to be the top scoring African in the Bundesliga, the Gabon star could hold on to the title for long as he promises to score more.

Aubameyang has bagged all the 97 goals in 143 for the Yellow and Blacks.

Aubameyang's record is hardly surprising considering he burst onto the Bundesliga scene with a hat-trick on his debut against Augsburg in August 2013.

He ended his maiden campaign with 13 goals, and has not looked back since.

16 followed in 2014/15 with 25 and 31 in the following seasons, and many more goals are expected still to come from the all-time most prolific African player to grace the Bundesliga stage.
