New Black Stars management committee chairman George Afriyie says one of his priorities is to help win back the overwhelming support of Ghanaians for the team.

The Black Stars appear to be emerging from recession following their disappointing showing at the 2014 World Cup.

The team experienced abject rejection by most Ghanaians for the fiasco in Brazil.

The Black Stars have however braved the storm to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Equatorial Guinea.

Ghana showed glimpses of its gradual return to good form in the 3-1 win over Togo in their final 2015 AFCON qualifier in Tamale.

But many still have doubts over re-investing their hearts back into the Black Stars.

And newly appointed head of the Black Stars management committee, George Afriyie says the task of winning back the overwhelming support will be on top of his ‘to-do’ list.

“We are not enjoying full support from the Ghanaian public and therefore it is important we galvanize the support and win the support back for the team – that is very key,” he said.

“I have an open-door policy, I am very friendly and open to ideas to ensure we become successful.

“We need each and every one to make the team great.”

Afriyie is the immediate past management committee chief of the Ghana U20 team where he led the side to a third place finish at the 2013 U20 World Cup in Turkey.

He will be working with a new coach – Avram Grant – at the Black Stars.
