Gerald Asamoah tips Germany to win international titles

Ghana-born German striker Gerald Asamoah believes the current crop of German youngsters can eclipse legends like Oliver Kahn.

The former Germany international collected over 40 caps for his country, scoring six goals in the process, and he is optimistic that Joachim Low's current side can deliver a trophy for the nation.

"The guys play really excellent football," admitted Asamoah,” Asamoah is quoted by goal.com

"All the work will pay off and they will reach a title, which is what they are aiming for, of course. You can't be satisfied with always ending up second or third.

"It's clear that a nation like Germany needs to aim high. And I believe that they will succeed some day."

Germany's current crop of players are lauded as among the best squads in the world, and Asamoah believes that if they are left to play their game, they will reach their goal.

"It's about specific characters. Someone like [Mesut] Ozil doesn't have to shout on the pitch, he tries to play his game. You can't 'clone' guys like Effenberg or Kahn. Everyone is different, that's why we should let these guys do their thing.

"And I want to ask one question: what titles have Kahn or Effenberg ever won with the national team? Of course Kahn won a lot with Bayern [Munich], but with Germany we never got that far back then, although we were close.

"The guys now have got a good chance, they've got a good team, and I really believe they will reach a title.”
