German-born of Ghanaian descent Gideon Jung has extended his contract with German Bundesliga side HSV Hamburg until 2022.

Jung joined the Hamburg-based outfit from lower-tier side Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in August 2015 and made his debut for the side in their 5-0 defeat to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

The 23-year-old versatile defender's contract will run out in 2022 but Hamburg have decided to tie him to a longer contract ahead of schedule until 2022.

This was announced by HSV. "Gideon has completed an excellent development with us," said HSV sports director Jens Todt.

"At HSV I got the chance to assert myself in the Bundesliga and in recent years I've had a lot of experience and a great desire to continue my career here at HSV," says Jung.

Jung, who is currently out with injury, has plundered one goal in 63 appearances for the Red Roses.

He is still eligible to play for Ghana despite featuring for the German U21 national team.
