Head of the technical directorate at the Ghana Football Association Francis Oti Akenteng has shelved aside talks that Maxwell Konadu should be given the sack from the local Black Stars after a disastrous COSAFA cup competition.

The locally assembled side performed abysmal in South Africa culminating in a 2-1 loss to Madagascar and an even deepening 3-0 loss to Zambia to crash out of the competition.

The alarming nature of Maxwell’s performance has led to calls for him to replaced in order to afford him maximum concentration as deputy coach of the Black Stars.

But Oti Akenteng who heads the technical directorate at the GFA says those calls are off the mark.

“We live in a country where when you lose a game they call for your head and when you win you get all sorts of comparisons,” Akenteng told Accra based Citi FM

“I am sure most of the calls for Maxwell to be replaced are because of the team’s performance in South Africa and for me they are all off the mark.

“He has proven in the past that he has got all it takes to be able to make this team a success.”

Maxwell lead the local Black Stars to a second place finish in the last edition of the CHAN tournament held in South Africa.
