Ghana ace Michael Essien frightened to play in Cairo

Ghana midfielder Michael Essien says he uncomfortable travelling to Cairo for next week's World Cup playoff against Egypt.

The Chelsea ace, like most of his international teammates, would have loved to face the Pharaohs on a neutral ground.

The recent unrests and outbreak of violence in the Egyptian capital is scaring majority of Ghana's star players.

But Essien, who scored in the first leg 6-1 win, has admitted he is frightened to play in Cairo.

"I am not afraid or scared of the Egypt team. But I am frightened to play in Egypt because of the on-going fights over there," Essien told Accra-based Asempa FM.

"We have nothing to do about that because we are told to play in Egypt and we will do just that."

Essien played in Ghana debut World Cup appearance in 2006 but missed the last edition in South Africa due to injury.
