Ghana midfielder Mubarak Wakaso is facing a huge fine from Spanish club Espanyol after failing to arrive join the club five days after Africa Cup of Nations.

Then joint top-scorer of Africa’s top-flight football competition has missed two training sessions which has angered coach Javier Aguirre.

The reasons for his delay are unknown to the coach and the directors of the club.

The development makes Wakaso, one of the most important players in his club, a serious doubt for Sunday’s league clash with Real Betis at Cornella.

Wakaso was expected to report for training on Wednesday morning but did not arrive by the end of Thursday’s training session.

The Ghanaian footballer ended his participation in the African Nations Cup on Saturday after playing the consolation match for third and fourth position.

With nothing to celebrate following the Black Stars fourth place finish, Espanyol’s Mexican boss Aguirre expected a quick return for Wakaso with many serious matches ahead of them.

The trainer is considering slapping a huge fine on the Ghanaian when he arrives.

Unless Wakaso gives a reasonable excuse for his absence in training, he will not escape the financial sanction.

Espanyol are currently 13th on the Spanish league table going into the 24th match of the season.
