Ghana Afcon team get cash reward

Ghana President John Mills has rewarded the young Black Stars team with US$ 20,000 each for finishing second at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.

An injury ravaged and inexperienced Ghana team prove critics wrong by advancing to the final of the competition by imperceptibly dispatching opponents like Burkina Faso, hosts Angola and rivals Nigeria with a tactically disciplined football strategy.

President Mills praised the team for the unyielding bravery exhibited at the tournament on receiving the team at the Castle, Osu on Tuesday.

"We never won the trophy but this team won the hearts of many Ghanaians and Africans at the competition. I wish to say that this is a sign of good things to come especially at the World Cup. Ghanaians never say die," President Mills said at the ceremony.

Captain Richard Kingson thanked the President for his reward package and gave his number 22 jersey he wore for the final match against Egypt.

Ghana's preparations for the 2010 World Cup finals begin early next month with a friendly against a yet-to-be named opponent in South Africa.
