Ghana assistant coach Gerrard Nus quits Black Stars to join American side Rayo OKC

Ghana has suffered a major blow ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations a key member of the technical staff Gerrard Nus has been named as the head coach of American side Rayo OKC.

Video analyst of the Black Stars Nus has taken over the side which plays in the second tier league NASL.

The Spanish, who is also a qualified coach, has been a key figure in Ghana's recent successes helping them to reach the final of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nus was appointed following the exit of coach Alen Marcina who was asked to stepped down from his position.

Nus joins Rayo OKC from Spanish side Rayo Vallecano de Madrid, which owns a majority stake in the Oklahoma-based club.

In addition to serving as the Assistant Technical Director for Rayo Vallecano de Madrid and is currently a member of the Ghana Men’s National Team staff under veteran manager Avram Grant.

“Gerard brings with him a wealth of experience to Oklahoma City, having worked with well-known clubs in a number of countries,” Presa said.

“Through the knowledge gained from his coaching stints all over the world, we believe he is the right person to lead Rayo OKC moving forward.”

Nus made his NASL coaching debut in their 1-1 draw with defending champions New York Cosmos on Sunday.
