Ghana beat DR Congo to set-up CHAN semis clash with Nigeria

Ghana will face Nigeria in an Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) semifinal after Kwabena Adusei scored a penalty to send DRC packing.

Adusei netted in the second half following a hand ball incident by DRC inside the danger area.

There was plenty of action as both teams got stuck into the tackles and there were enough chances for goals on both ends to keep the neutrals excited.

But Ghana seemed more likely to score, with Yahaya Mohammed particularly impressive while goalkeeper Stephan Adams also impressed.

Ghana were the first to threaten in the seventh minute when Mpong’s header went well wide and six minutes later DRC's Mubele skinned his marker but sent his powerful effort from inside the area way over.

In the 27th minute Ghana went very close through Anobaah when he danced his way past a few DRC defenders before directing his effort onto the post from an acute angle.

Two minutes before the half time break Ghana had another chance when the ball fell nicely for Adusei, but he could not make it count for the Black Stars.

In the 54th minute, DRC nearly gifted Yahaya Mohammed a goal, but goalkeeper Robert Kidiaba reacted well to clear the ball from Yahaya's feet following a horrible back pass.

Kwabina Adusei opened the scoring for Ghana from the penalty spot after 68 minutes. The spot kick was awarded after DRC’s Kimwika handled the ball in the area.

In the 75th minute Ghana had another chance as Bansey sent his headed attempt wide of goal before Kasusula shot over the crossbar.

In the 84th minute the impressive Yahaya Mohammed should have made it two for Ghana when he was right in front of the keeper and missed.

DRC had a penalty appeal denied in the dying moments of referee’s optional time, which lasted for as many as six minutes.

Interesting semi final, but i was disappointed with ghana's dubious penalty win over DR Congo. Nigeria should kick out these ghana at all costs and put them in their usual category (trophyless stars).

"God bless Nigeria." It sounds awkward, doesn't it? Okay, what about this: "God Bless our Homeland Ghana. Yep! That is better to the ears. Anyway, I expect to see a good game, but knows the Stars are always above birds.

Luckily they have until Wednesday to organize a better game. The long passes to Yahaya is not really working. We need some better passing.

@ emenike: offense wins games....but defense wins championships! ... naija has conceded 8 goals....and ghana has conceded only 2. also, it is very difficult to equalize when ghana scores...and they have the ability to prevent other teams from scoring too... so in summary, look at at this way: our defense will prevent naija from scoring, but can u stop our attack/or can u equalize when we score? remember, we are not morocco...nor zimbabwe...this is ghana; and once we score, it is game over!

Are you guys (GSN) SAYING Yahaya Mohamed was impressive. I disagree, he's one of the unimpressive ghana attacker i've seen in years. He has no quality so Akwasi Appiah should forget about considering him for the world cup. Bansey was running and chasing defenders in the box whilst yahaya keeps working and his passing rate was very horrible.

HE-GOAT. were those penalties disputable???? no, they were CLEAR as day. from what I've seen so far, the defense seems to be the strongest part of this ghanian team. 9ja will not score more than 1 goal. it will be poetic justice if ghana beats u with a penalty. LOOL.
