Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan gracious in AFCON semis defeat

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan last night insisted that the Black Stars are heartbroken to miss out of playing in the finals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana were defeated on penalties by Burkina Faso

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan last night insisted that the Black Stars are heartbroken to miss out of playing in the finals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars lost 3-2 on penalties to Burkina Faso in the semi-finals after drawing 1-1 in 120 minutes of football at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Wednesday night.

The missed opportunity prolongs Ghana’s long wait to ending their Nations Cup trophy drought, spanning over three decades.

Ghana were keen on making it to the finals but the Stallions got the better of the Black Stars during the lottery of penalties.

“We came here to win but it is rather unfortunate we lost this game. I think the better side won and we lost by penalty shoot-outs. I would say the luckiest side won,” Gyan said as he reflected on the defeat.

“We are really sad at the moment. It’s normal.

“There is a third-place coming on and definitely we would be down but we would psyche ourselves up and make sure we go for the third-place.”

The build-up to the match had centred on the playing surface at the Mbombela Stadium

But Gyan says, the pitch was no distraction and added that Ghana are not finding excuses.

“I think we cannot find excuses with the field. We’ve all played on this kind of field before in Africa.

“Before the game we saw the pitch and we didn’t think about the field. We came here to win this game and to go to the final,” he said.

….The black stars are out of AFCON 2013. They were outplayed by Cape Verde but they luckily won. They had the referee favouring them in their match against Burkina Faso but still lost. They did not play like men, but appeared like women displaying their dress and beauty at a competition. It reminds me of the childhood stories of Cinderella. Since they resembled Cinderella, I proposed that the name be changed from Black Stars to Pink Stars.
Burkina Faso is a poor, landlocked country that relies heavily on cotton and gold exports for revenue with a population of 16,967,845. The GDP is $24.03 billion.
Whilst Ghana’s economy has been strengthened by a quarter century of relatively sound management, and is well endowed with natural resources with a population of 24,965,816 and GDP of $83.18 billion. Clearly, Burkina Faso should be no match for Ghana. SHAME ON THE PINK STARS, VIVA BURKINA FASO!!!!!

HERE IS THE MAIN REASON WHY THIS KUMASI COACH IS NOT FIT TO COACH THE NATIONAL TEAM 1) NO UEFA COACHING LICENCE, 2) HE NEVER COACH ANY CLUB IN HIS LIFE, 3) HE SACKED AYEW BROTHERS AND REPLACED THEM WITH INLAWS, 4) TACTICALLY BLIND.wise up*

I said it but people did not listen to me,they think since we are wining by the help of referees the team is good,i said it from day 1 that this coach is the worst Black Stars coach i have ever seen in many years,CAF wanted Ghana to go to finals at all so they started stealing for us from our second match,i was very sad yesterday not because we did not go to the finals but i was sad because Black Stars were playing primary school team,he must sack now before he totally destroy the Black Stars.

  5. Djeniko says:

To save face Ghana government and d FA should have a joint statement that they condemn d ref’s decisions that looks like help to ghana. Ghana has lost face worldwide.

  6. Kweku Basabasa says:

No complaints. We’ve simply not been good enough. We let 2 goals slip when we played Congo DR, we were outplayed by Cape Verde and having seen Burkina play it was obvious were going to have a tough game and we did.I’m happy though for a few reasons; Atsu and Wakaso are going to be good additions to our team.I don’t know how old Asante is but he has a future.I also hope we get another striker because Gyan has been disappointing. What I do not want to hear is the word “rebuilding”.Because if we were, we should be doing that with the youngsters who won then U-21 in Egypt.

  7. Modern Guy says:

Ghana deserved to lose the game. They have been so poor throughout the tournament with no striker. Until Ghana reverse to our traditional 4-4-2, Ghana will never again win the Nation’s Cup. The coach is poor and the team he took to the AFCON was not the best Ghana could offer. Personal egoism of the coach and the GFA robbed Ghana the opportunity of playing in the finals. Wait, it is even a face saving situation for Ghana by God as Nigeria would have completely disgraced Ghana in the finals.
Sack Appiah as you sacked “Plavi” when he failed to win the Cup. We are waiting. GFA, we are waiting unless you want to be hypocritical here.

  8. papa says:

u shud just score when u get chances gyan.. u let us down AGAIN!!

  9. adzen says:

who said Akwasi Appiah is a kumasi coach?????well dat dude is 4rm Brong Ahafo and not Ashanti region and anyway football is always football, der will always be jxt 1 winner and it’s not said dat Ghana we are suppose to win all the time. The players have done well and need to be appreciated and not discourage.

  10. lalasu says:

there they go again, the blame game…the coach didtn do this, didnt send this player, should have done what…how many of u have had things work to perfection in ur lives before or how many of u have taken some responsibilities n actions that have not failed before…leave the players n the coach alone. it is not their wish to be out.

  11. Myself says:

Ghana needs a change in tactic and formation and more depth especially upfront and defence…too predictable and Gyan just doesn’t do it upfront anymore, he was mising chances a striker should be scoring…..

  12. ernest says:

who even gave this man the captain band? Asamoah Gyan does not deserve it and i have said time without number that Asamoah Gyan is not a good a striker. the gentleman is too wasteful and erratic. i need a quality striker and not Asamoah Gyan. he was presented with not less than three clear chances and he converted none. this shows how mediocre he is and Ghana can no longer wait. he won’t even tackle when looses the ball.

  13. Finals says:

Ghana fans, please do not crucify your coach any anyone, when God says Yes No man can say NO. Zambia won when it was their time, wait for your time too, this time is for the bukinabese and BANCE..insults will not do.

We now know that Group C was the group of death.

  14. Assisi says:

In most of the match, Ghana were so relaxed. I didn’t see much urgency and determination from Ghana and that’s why we lost. Unless Ghanaians stop that laid back attitude and complacency when they meet other teams, the opposition would always outmuscle us like b fasso did and win games against us.

  15. BORNTOWIN says:

do we expect Ghana to win with a coach who had never coached any sides? dont we see his incompetency wen it comes to his tactics, formation and inability to change games? he is a total failure!
For Gyan, de least said about him de better! anyway congrats to Atsu, wakasu and asante

This was a poor display from both Ghana and the ref. Coach appiah is not serous, I dnt understand why he made kwadwo asamoah #kasa lay left back, when we had a natural LB on the bench, this bugs me. Once kasa goes to play LB the midfield opens and bance and patroipa, were playing “Ampe”, poor coaching. If he thought kissi boatend wasn’t capable of playing, why bring him along and leave capable players that are first choice LB for their respective clubs in Europe such as nana asare, David Addy. Coach people warned you about this. Please have the guts to come out and face your critics.

CAF should consider shifting the date of the Afcon from being played in january for the following reasons:
    a) Most parts of Africa is in the rainy season and january/februry is peak.

b)January school fees are due so the contribution of low attendance in the stadiums.

c)January is just after festive season most people are not liquid.

d)Transfer window is open and most players with promises of a euro move fail to concentrate or lose out.

The ref was such a disgrace to African Football. He made the pitch look worse with his biased officiating. That was match fixing. Lets face it, football in north Africa is on a slide. So they want to spoil the rest of the game across Africa. It was a good match that was tainted by the ref’s biased officiating.

Asamoah Gyan and Jocelyn Dumas, who has the biggest ass? Lmao

  21. kisseh says:

I think coach Appiah lack the technical experience need by a first class coach
In a game of this nature the coach need to study and understand the to short falls of the team, before effecting changes
I will suggest the GFA look for a competent trainer to assist Appiah, if we are to qualify for the world cup. Yes day you will clearly see the team lack strength. For now the team is not playing and particular patten. I strongly suggest the FA o for the former Chelsea trainer WILLINKIN

  22. FreshBoysInTheBuilding says:

In all seriousness, this coach has no badges, lack vision and formation strategy.. He was totally confused and didn’t know what to do.. IT’S FUCKING OBVIOUS AND SAD…Gyan is probably the worst captain we’ve ever had.. He was good when before he went to UAE.. Now he must throw in the towel.. I miss Essien, S. Appiah, Muntari sooo much.. If we wanted to groom an indigenous coach, we should’ve started with Silas Tettey and not Akwasi Appiah.. Akwasi has no certification to be a coach, all he did was job shadowing and thats not good enough.. WE NEED HIM SACKED IMMEDIATELY.. Gyan can’t be the captain any longer…

  23. selfmade says:

I said these achacha players can’t do shit and i was right!!!!! John yaa boye is a fucking coward!!! The guy is a fucking inferiority complex and was panicking right from the start of the fucking tournament!! Viva the revolution!!

  24. kuukuphilly says:

I agree with what everyone is saying here.simply we stink, our defenders r weak and gyan should give it up to someone else….
