Ghana coach Avram Grant was among three trainers shortlisted by Rubin Kazan for the coaching position of the Russian top-flight side after doubts emerged over their coach.

The former Chelsea boss Grant was pencilled down along with former Portugal boss Carlos Queiroz and ex-Aston Villa coach Alex McLeish for the post.

Kazan were considering sacking current coach Valeriy Chaly when his side finished ninth in the top-flight two seasons ago.

“There were proposals from Rubin Kazan for Avram Grant, Carlos Queiroz and Alex McLeish,” Metshin told Russian online portal, the Business Gazeta.

"These are football coaches who are experienced in the Uefa Champions League and Europa League and gave their previous clubs results.”

Avram Grant has one more year to run on his current contract as coach of the Ghana national team.

He has been credited for breathing life back into the Black Stars after a disastrous campaign at the 2014 World Cup as he came within a penalty kick of winning the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
