Ghana goalkeeper Adam Larsen Kwarasey could make a return to the Black Stars after holding a meeting with Coach Avram Grant in the United States in what a GFA official described as frank discussion on the player’s international future.

Grant, who watched Kwarasey feature for Portland Timbers against New York City in the Major League Soccer (MLS) last Sunday in the company of GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, met with the disgruntled goalie to discuss the reasons behind his decision to not make himself available for the national team in the aftermath of Ghana’s disappointing World Cup campaign in Brazil.

Kwarasey, 27, was made a scathing attack on the national team’s goalkeepers’ trainer, Nassamu Yakubu, whose competence he called into question over perceived bias, and vowed not to play for the Stars so long as Yakubu remained at post.

According to GFA spokesperson, Ibrahim Sannie Daara, Kwarasey discussed his problems and fears in a frank manner with Grant, who gave the goalie an assurance he was always welcomed back to the team but would have to fight for the No. 1 position, currently being shared between Fatau Dauda and Spain-based Razak Braimah, who has been the first choice goalkeeper since the Israeli trainer took charge of the Stars last December.

“I can confirm to you that Avram Grant met with Kwarasey after watching him play and after their discussion he [Grant] assured Kwarasey of a place in his team but did not guarantee him the No.1 position,” Daara told the Graphic Sports.

Kwarasey, who made his international debut against Swaziland in Accra in September 2011, last played for Ghana in the 2014 World Cup group opener against the United States in Natal where he earned his 21st cap.
