Ghana coach confirms provisional 25-man AFCON squad

Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic has confirmed that his 25-man squad for next month's African Cup of Nations includes Jordan Ayew and Emmanuel Baffour.

MTNFootball.com exclusively revealed on Wednesday the full squad now confirmed by the Serbian coach.

The select band of players will head for camping in South Africa on 7 January where they will test their battle readiness against Kaizer Chiefs on 12 January.

The Black Stars will then play South Africa's Bafana Bafana in Rustenburg three days after.

Thirteen new players are in the Black Stars squad for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations as compared to Ghana's squad for the last edition in Angola.

The number represents a 56.52% change from the dominantly young squad that took Ghana all the way to the grand finale only to lose to a more experienced Egypt side two years ago.

Forwards; Prince Tagoe, Jordan Ayew, Emmanuel Baffour and Derek Asamoah are the major beneficiaries this term-replacing Mathew Amoah, Dominic Adiyiah, Haminu Dramani and Ransford Osei in the process.

Also, Sulley Muntari, Derek Boateng, Mohammed Abu and Charles Takyi replace Michael Essien, Ibrahim Ayew, Opoku Agyemang and Moussa Narry.

In defence Daniel Opare, Masawudu Alhassan and John Boye get the nod ahead of Hans Adu Sarpei, Harrison Afful and Eric Addo.

Richard Kingson and Philemon McCarthy make way for Adam Kwarasey and Ernest Sowah in the goalkeeping department

Leicester City man John Paintsil who missed the last edition through injury takes his place.

Ghana are drawn in Nations Cup Group D alongside Botswana, Guinea and Mali which is based in the Gabonese city of Francevile.

Goalkeepers: Adam Kwarasey, Daniel Agyei, Ernest Sowah

Defenders: John Painstil, Samuel Inkoom, Daniel Opare, Massawudu Alhassan, Lee Addy, Isaac Vorsah, Jonathan Mensah, John Mensah, John Boye

Midfielders: Derek Boateng, Anthony Annan, Jordan Ayew, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, Abu Mohammed, Dede Ayew, Sulley Muntari, Charles Takyi, Kwadwo Asamoah

Strikers: Asamoah Gyan, Prince Tagoe, Derek Asamoah, Emmanuel Baffour.
