Ghana coach explains Adomah choice for 2013 AFCON

Albert Adomah was chosen ahead of other players to give 'balance' to the Black Stars, according to assistant coach Maxwell Konadu.

The Bristol City winger has played his way into the provisional Ghana squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations following impressive displays for his English championship club.

Adomah’s versatility and ability to help out with defensive duties according to Konadu, gave him the edge over other serious competitors for the spot.

"We observed in recent Black Stars matches that left-footed players always play on the right flank," he told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

"It started with Sulley (Muntari) then with Dede (Ayew) and now quite recently with (Christian) Atsu.

"This however poses a danger to us especially when our opponents are able to make them out and render them ineffective.

"There was therefore the need to get a natural right winger, hence the decision to bring in Adomah and (Solomon) Asante."

Konadu added: "Aside him being a winger, he is able to track back to help in defence, he is a ball-winner and scores goals.

"His performance with his club has been very good this season which further helps his case."

Adomah missed out on the spot in the Ghana team for the last Nations Cup but appears certain to make coach Akwasi Appiah’s team for next year’s event in South Africa.
