The Ministry of Youth and Sports have handed over a 3 bedroom storey apartment to the head coach of the Black Stars Kwasi Appiah, an initiative that is saving government several thousands of dollars dashed out yearly into accommodation for coaches.
The apartment which is located at the Airport Residential Area in Accra is expected to be the official residence for all coaches who will handle the Black Stars from hence.
The facility is located at the Airport Residential Area in Accra and it coast government GHÈ» 300,000.
It was acquired in collaboration with the Ministry of Works and Housing.
Officials of the Ghana Football Association, the Sports Ministry, the National Sports Authority and the media were there for witness the occasion as Kwasi Appiah received the keys from the Sports Minister.
The new residence is saving the Ghana government millions of Ghana cedis as it spent an estimated amount of GHC36,000 a month on only accommodation for Black Stars coaches as revealed by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Isaac Asiamah.
He made the revelation at the National Sports Fund Consultation Forum held in Accra on 14th December 2017 while delivering the keynote address.
Securing the official residence for the Black Stars coach therefore saves the state $96,000 a year that was previously spent on accommodation.
This is the first time in the history of Ghana that the Sports Ministry has been able to take such a bold step in securing the accommodation.
The Sports Ministry spent a total of GHC8,640,000 ($192000) on accommodation alone for former Ghana coach Avram Grant who lived in a hotel for his entire two-year stay in the country.
Black Stars coaches will no longer stay in hotels anymore following the Isaac Asiamah-led ministry's initiative to find a lasting solution to the unending trouble.
Coach Kwasi Appiah will be the first to occupant of the facility.
This will come as a massive relief to the Ghana Football Association who have been accused on numerous occasions for spending unwisely on the hotel bills of the senior national team coach.
The step taken by Hon. Isaac Asiamah means that the era of spending huge monies on hotels is over with the new dawn also expected to stomach other national team coaches.
