Ghana head coach James Kwesi Appiah has given a strong hint Andre Ayew could captain the Black Stars in the near future after hailing the leadership qualities of the Olympique Marseille winger.

Andre, son of African football legend Abedi Ayew Pele, is regarded as a potential Black Stars squad among Ghana fans but a section has sharply criticised his tender age to take over the Ghana armband.

However, Kwesi Appiah has given an indication the 24-year-old could captain his side in the future after praising his leadership qualities.

"He is a player of world class technical and tactical level and he is also a leader.

When the team is in trouble he pushes all his companions to fight and not give up. It is important to have him available," he told Italian website tuttomercatoweb.

The Arsenal, Liverpool and Inter Milan target exhibited his leadership qualities in 2009 when he led the Ghana U20 side to become the first African country to win the FIFA U20 World Cup.

Andre ended his temporary international retirement to play a crucial role in Ghana's qualification for the 2014 World Cup.
