Ghana head coach James Kwesi Appiah has hailed the quality in the Ghana CHAN squad and has promised to give equal opportunities to local players to challenge for place in his World Cup squad.

The 53-year-old watched the Local Black Stars reach the final of the GoTV Wafu Cup after beating Burkina Faso 2-1 to progress and set a date with Group B winners on Thursday.

Before the kick-off at the Baba Yara Stadium, the Ghana head coach visited Maxwell Konadu's men in the dressing room and inspired them to go for victory.

Aduana Stars defender Godfred Saka shot the Stars ahead early in the first-half before setting up Yahaya Mohammed for the winner after the Burkinabes had levelled from the spot.

The former Asante Kotoko trainer admits he was delighted with the team's improved play.

"I watched them in friendlies before the tournament and I think from what I saw today there are massive improvements in the team and I'm happy about it," he told Accra-based Oman FM.

"I spotted some quality players who played exceptionally well. I'll continue to follow them. As I have always said in the past, my doors are always opened for every player and we believe good things will come," he added.

Kwesi Appiah made history after becoming the first Ghanaian coach to lead the Black Stars to a World Cup qualification.
