Ghana coach Maxwell Konadu believes the opening win over Congo will give his team the needed confidence as they turn focus on their next game against Libya at the CHAN tournament.

The home-based Black Stars secured a slim 1-0 win over Congo in their opening game of the tournament being held in South Africa on Monday.

The Black Stars team have been under immense pressure to right the wrongs of the last edition in Sudan where Ghana bundled out of the competition after the group stage.

The team is now eyeing another win against Libya who were impressive 2-0 winners over favourites Ethiopia in the other group game.

And Konadu believes the opening win will offer his team the right foundation on which to build upon going into their next game against Libya.

“I think the boys have done very well for winning this game considering how far we’ve come,” he said.

“With this win, the team confidence will soar and the boys will be in good spirits for our next match.

“We will qualify if we win our next match and therefore we will put in every hard work necessary to beat Libya at all cost.”

The Black Stars will face Libya in the second group game on Friday at the Free State Stadium.
