Ghana to name final squad on January 9
Ghana’s technical team have already settled on the squad they will be taking to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations according to assistant coach Maxwell Konadu.
The Black Stars will step up preparations in the UAE on January 7 two days before the presentation of the final squad to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Twenty five (25) players will be taken to the pre-tournament camp in Abu Dhabi of which two will be dropped to arrive at the final squad.
The Black Stars are however billed to play an international friendly with Cape Verde on Tuesday.
But Konadu says that exercise will only clarify a few doubts surrounding some players as the coaches already have a fair idea of the personnel they will be taking along to South Africa.
“We have a rough idea of those who will be making it to South Africa even though something can come up during our training sessions, that is the main reason why we have these two players,” Konadu said.
“And this friendly match we are going to play will give us a broader view of the players we want to invite for the main tournament.
“So if we start the training and nothing happens, those we have in mind will go to the Nations Cup, if nothing happens we will have to drop the two players.”
Ghana is drawn in Group B alongside Mali, Niger and Congo DR.

This can discourage the lot called for the cape verde friendly
I don not totally agree with you. A player outside the scheme of things of the technical team can make a very meaningful impact in the match and it can make the coaches re-think.The statement is not to discourage anyone. It should rather be a wake up call for some of them to fight for a place.Nothing is sealed yet, until the tournament begins.Injuries, loss of form and other factors can change the destinies of those the coaches have in mind already.
I must say that it would have been a big surprise to me if the coaches did not have their intended squad in mind already after all the numerous call ups they have made in the previous games.Maxwell’s comments are in the right direction especially with the days fast approaching for the CAN. This is the time to work hard on their tactics. They are individually good coaches but I must admit that their tactics so far at the Black Stars have not really impressed me. They did well against Malawi and I wish they would succeed to make those of us who called for the appointment of our own people as the head coach very proud. They however need to do more to get the best out of the team. It does not really matter how they play to win,but losing is unacceptable. Getting the result should be their priority now,if they want to win the tournament. Ghana will surely conquer if we get disciplined.
Yes!! Memphis Depay is on radar for BS ! maybe mentioning names on internet does help….
i hope Quincy is in his mind too, cuz for him its a must!!!
You are right.
Kwesi Appiah to consider PSV’s Memphis Depay for future Ghana assignment
The 18-year-old striker has been in the plans of the Black Stars coach and could be a target after the 2013 Afcon in South Africa
Memphis Depay (PSV)
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah would consider PSV Eindhoven’s Memphis Depay for future friendly games in an effort to woo him to switch allegiance to his fatherland, Goal.com Ghana can exclusively confirm.
The 18-year-old forward is likely to be given a call-up in an unofficial game before the 2014 Brazil World Cup qualifiers resume again as the Black Stars boss seeks to get the needed quality materials to qualify Ghana for its third consecutive global showpiece.
“Based on the FIFA rule, Appiah can get Depay for an unofficial game for the Black Stars before the nation applies to Fifa for his nationality switch if he decides to commit his future to Ghana,” a close source to the coach hinted Goal.com Ghana.
“He is very much in the plans of coach Kwesi Appiah and he will certainly be considered after the African Cup of Nations.”
Depay has been in fantastic form for the 18-time Dutch champions since being promoted into the first team by manager Philip Cocu this season.
He currently leads the attack of the Dutch national Under-20 after featuring for the U17 side.
with the class this boy has, i bet netherlands will cap him in their national team immediately just to render him unavailable. Even though he is just 19, A.A should cap this young chap as soon as possible. His passes in PSV’s game yesterday in the europa gae was splendid on the right wing.
keep on bragging,,,nd keep on paying big payo to de media esp gh soccernet nd angel fm,,,ur end will come soon
You in ghana ive read all your comments and insulting zambia when we love you. Zambia is winning the cup again you brag about having euro players when we all have euro players. Wait till you see the zambian version of christian atsu
FWAYO TEMBO
The zambian winger has not featured for Zambia for over a year.He is expected to make afcon 2013. In Romania he has been regarded as the best midfielder . His club have place a 20 million euro price tag on his head and compared him to falcao. A bidding war is about to ensue headed by romanian billionare Gigi becali owner of Steau Bucharest interest in Italy is also there. Watch out Ghana Zambia is coming for you.

His 2 goals from this week. Humble yourself we all good players. and we brothers and sisters stop insulting Zambia.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, Fwayo Tem-who? if he is this good, why has he not featured for Zambia in over 2 yrs? Fwayo Tem-shit. If its Ghana you are interested in then don’t bother turning up at all. Hahahahahahahahaha, a Romanian based player. Probably ur biggest star i guess…. lolllll
fwayo ,23, played for Basel where he was racially abused before going to romania he has had club problems hence not featuring for zambia. I have humbly warned you and you keep insulting zambia. See you in SA good day.
come on! You cant be the REAL Mayuka. Stop pirating his name!
i am not the real mayuka of course his fan i beg you ghanains to stop insulting zambians we google search things come to this website and find insults please refrain from insults it is upsetting a lot of people in zambia.
Squad I would like to see:
Goalkeepers: Adam Kwarasey,Daniel Agyei,Fatau Dauda
Defenders: John Mensah,Jerry Akaminko,John Boye,Daniel Opare,Samuel Inkoom,Lee Addy,Isaac Vorsah, Jonathan Mensah,Richard Kissi Boateng
Midfielders: Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, Karim Bellarabi, Memphis Depay, Kwadwo Asamoah, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, Andre Ayew, Sulley Muntari, Emmanuel Frimpong,Christian Atsu
Strikers: Jordan Ayew, Richmond Yiadom-Boakye, Asamoah Gyan, Emmanuel Clottey
thats the best squad! wow

Masa drop lee Addy and samual inkoom from the list
how can you leave Abdul Waris ST, Razak Nuhu LB, and Mohammed Abu CM out of the squad.
thinking you dont know whats going on in the football world.
John Mensah does not even have a club!!!
Hi Mayuka,
Please pray Zambia to avoid Ghana if not it will be
a disater night in Zambia on that blessed day.
Cheers
Actually this might be a little better:
Goalkeepers: Adam Kwarasey,Daniel Agyei,Fatau Dauda
Defenders: John Mensah,Jerry Akaminko,John Boye,Daniel Opare,Samuel Inkoom,Lee Addy,Isaac Vorsah, Jonathan Mensah,Harrison Afful
Midfielders: Quincy Owusu-Abeyie, Karim Bellarabi, Memphis Depay, Kwadwo Asamoah, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, Andre Ayew, Sulley Muntari, Emmanuel Frimpong,Christian Atsu
Strikers: Jordan Ayew, Richmond Yiadom-Boakye, Asamoah Gyan, Abdul Majeed Waris
hey Kwame how ya doing.. your squad is good but think kissi is far better than Afful u should put him back haha, and david addy not lee addy, lee addy is a huge liability and has shown this on numerous occasions, good squad though, and lastly maybe clottey and waris have done enough to push my boy richmond out.
Richmond boakye is 6 foot 3! We don’t have a striker like him in our pool! Why take 2 midgets!!!
All i care about now is the inclusion of quincy.. there shouldn’t be no disappointments here because though i support appiah you succeed as Ghana coach,l ll never forgive him for the rest of my life if he neglects quincy again because as a ghanaian like him,i have a lot of love for my country as him and our persistent failures is gradually getting to all of us and such all the fans has equal stakes as what player the coach needs to parade this time round!! The mean reasons a lot of people prefer local coaches to an expatriate is that the former understands our local game more than the foreigners and i think is about time appiah proved to all and sundry that he has the abilities to prove all the doubting thomases!! There is nothing impossible but it can only be possible with the right players who are hungrier, ready and injury free and he heed to the advice of most football fans and do the right things,he ll silence a lot of people!!! With the problematic positions, try different players without changing the chemistry of the teamand am positive one of those players can fit perfectly there!!! If were are going to use 4-5-1 formation, please start as this… maintain the usual back fours, quincy on the right, asa on the left, anane as a static defensive midfielder, badu as a standard midfielder( both defence and attack) with dede ayew as the playermaker sometimes called free role… asa as the arrow head but we should all remember that this formation is about defence but attacks is initiated from the wings that’s why we need players who can perfectly cross the ball because there can never be a positive attack with this formation without proper wingers and thank god,Ghana has it in abundance!!! Once again,we don’t score much goals with this formation, because our players don’t move into right empty spaces all because of a credible playermaker and is about time dede fills that void!! Viva the revolutioncookbook!!!
GFA agenda:
-Approach Memphis Depay
-Approach Karim Bellarabi
-Go after Frimpong’s documents
and Quincy!!
I am impressed. You guys really know what good materials are. Drop lee Addy and Samuel Inkoom
No we need Inkoom,he’s a great player period!!!
What happened to this boy: Marvin Peersman???
Nyantakyi sat with him after the Ghana vs Togo match in Belgium 2 years ago telling him he will start arranging his papers for the switch….??
You guys are hurting very much. Whether you take the World Cup match to Tamale (typical of West Africans to use uncoath tactics!!!) we are going to the World Cup to such an extent that even the 3 points we got on a silver plate from Sudan (to makeyou happy)shall be inconsequential. The beauty is that the last three times we have met Sudan win or lose the result has been 3-0-AFCON (2008), AFCON (2012), World (2012-despite losing 0-2 on the pitch). Stop over-rating yourselves you sore-losers as even at 2013 AFCON where we beat you again 1-0 in the 3rd and 4th place playoff in 1996. Where you get the over confidence from i don’t understand. Even in 1978 when you won the AFCON at home, in the first game, Zambia scored first and it had to take bias/dubious referring to beat us 2-1. In 1982, you were lucky again poor officiating (NEVER HAPPENS in Southern Africa where civilisation is our middle name!!!) made you meet weak Libya in the final. That said i have great respect for your past greats-Abedi Pele, Yeboah, :Lamptey, Razak, Peter Oforyie Quaye (very promising but never exploded), Amankwa etc
Memphis who?
DEPAY
KWASI APPIAH…..I WILL NEVER 4GIVE U IF U DONT CALL OWUSU .
As much as we all like Memphis, we do realize that he is halfcaste right? He’s not a real Ghanaian..
Leave Appiah alone…he’s a good coach n will suprise a lot of u!!!
