Ghana set to play China in friendly next month

Posted On Thursday, 19th July 2012

Black Stars could face China in an international friendly next month

The Ghana Football Association says it is considering a proposal to play China in an international friendly next month.

The Black Stars want to take advantage of the FIFA free date for international friendlies on August 15.

This is to help coach Kwesi Appiah to fine tune his preparations for September’s 2013 Africa Cup of Nations final round qualifier against Malawi.

MTNFootball.com understands some new faces particularly in-form striker Abdul Majeed Waris who leads the Swedish League scorers chart will be invited.

Last month, coach Appiah toured Norway and Sweden where he held talks with potential national team players.

Stromsgodset left-back Razak Nuhu was spotted and could also earn a debut call-up for Ghana’s next assignment.

Olympique Marseille talisman Andre Ayew, who missed this summer’s double header against Lesotho and Zambia due to a shoulder injury, could make a return.

The Black Stars want to bounce back to winning ways after June’s 1-0 defeat to Zambia in a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

  1. GH FUO, THINK BIG!!! says:

WE NEED NIKE JERSEYS. THE JERSEY UP TOP IS A BETTER LOOK. MUCH BETTER THAN THE ONE WITH THOSE TECHNI COLO STARS ON THE RIGHT. VERY CHILDISH N MEDIOCRE. CHINA IS NOT A GOOD OPPOSITION. WE NEED TO PLAY STRONGER OPPOSITION N GFA SHLD PLAY FRIENDLIES IN GHANA ALSO.

  2. luizao says:

in fact black stars wil bounce back with their wining ways

  3. pacific says:

this must be a joke ..it will be even better if the black stars play against one of the local teams

  4. kuuku philly says:

I thought FIFA had moved the friendly date to September!!!

  5. Saxcee says:

@pacific i thought by now you know that no team can be underrated… But honestly i’ve neva seen the Chinese team play but i don’t think naturally they are soccer people..

  6. pacific says:

@saxcee..so teams can be still underrated.. mongolia and bangladesch for example :)

  7. Ghanas Son says:

GFA please play some friendly matches here in Ghana too!!!WTF always playing matches outside Ghana or the opponents home. Is it because of the per diems and things the officials get when they travel?
Anyway, I don’t think China is a good and wise opponent to choose in preparation of the game against Malawi. An African team would’ve been preferred in this case

  8. coconutman says:

For Akwesi Appiah Ghina is good opposition. Ghana must win this tie because we are ranked higher than China. China has invested a lot of money in their soccer program so you underestimate them at your own peril.

Dede must be given more time to recover completely. Calling up Majeed Warris is highly commendable. Emmanuel Bafour, Clottey and Boakye Yiadom must be included in the initial sqad. Jordan should be dropped and Adiyiah should be given another opportunity. These younger strikers will match up well with Gyan up top.

For the midfield Mpong, Atsu, should be the newcomers given a chance to be supported by veterans, Kwadwo Asamoah, Badu and Annan. Derek Boateng should be dropped.

On defense Daniel Opare, John Boye, Jonathan Mensah, Akaminko should match up with veterans Isaac Vorsah and John Mensah. Alhasan should also earn a call back. Drop Aful.

Goalkeepers Adam Kwarasey, Daniel Adjei and Ernest Sowah.

  9. He-goat says:

Why cant we play teams like Cote d’ Ivoire, Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria or even Togo in a friendly. These teams will give Ghana the cutting edge opposition we need and all the tensions to be found in competitive matches would be there. Playing any of these teams will put Ghana in a real fighting mood.

    • Peacock says:

Malawi will beat you if you play strong teams. Zanbia started playing small teams like India and lifted the AFCON trophy. But those who went strong teams came out as laughing stocks. GO GO FLAMES AND SCORCH THE BLACK JUJUS

  10. bbc says:

GFA pls stop wasting tax payer’s money for your own sake. Did you see our position in the latest fifa ranking? We are falling cos we are not playing any strong opponent. If you want to test the team play strong team rather than playing in China so you can go there to do your business and also get duty free when you return.

  11. Chu says:

mpong, clottey and warris would be called but adiyiah, inkoom and derek would play bcos they r not ready to join virtus

    • Peacock says:

Fifa Rankings do not play and win you trophies. Where was Zambia before winning AFCON? That is the problem with Ghana, you want to be on top always but no latest AFCON Trophy apart from those jungle 4 jungle cups you won in the past.
The Cup has been changed and it looks nice. Pure Gold.
I think CAF should allow ZAMBIA to maintain it permanently since they have changed the format of playing in odd years.
To be fair, for Confederation Cup, the winner of next year’s AFCON, should play Zambia to decide who represent Africa if Zambia will not retain it. CAF is not fair. If it was North or West African Team, they would have done this.

  12. Vmen USA says:

    bbc…..u sound right!

  13. bbc says:

@Vmen USA, i am glad that you have seen what is happening with our GFA members. They want to go there for business not for footaball.

  14. Goldwyns says:

Ki ki ki ki Ghana playing China ha ha ha ha you now into kungfu! GFA never ceases to amaze me, and u think playing China you can come and beat Malawi? (shhhh aint mentioning Zambia let the sleeping giant rest!) Ha ha ha while in China why can’t you then play indonesia, malaysia, pakistan, afghanstan, kazakstan ha ha ha hey you guys will break my ribs let me go back to work ki ki ki

  15. Dr Who says:

@Goldwyn,what is wrong if Ghana plays China? The Malawian national team recently China under-22 team to a 2-2 draw in China. Also,Zambia is scheduled to play Korea.therefore go & play Taiwan,Fuji &Thailand after the Korea game.

  16. Zash says:

What at all makes these foolish Zambians tink Ghana is their equals? @ goldwyn or wateva u call urself, what hv u won on this continent or beyond eva since u got affiliated to fifa, till the recent afcon. Stooges

  17. Goldwyns says:

@Dr No and Zash you guys its an open secret Ghanas football has gone to the dogs! This is not Ghana we used to know, so instead of playing sensible teams or country you go and train with china?! There so many countries in Africa that can make u run for yo money even Garbon or Togo can be better training than Chin Yao Tao’s of this world! You remind me of our neighbours bafana bafana who opts to play the likes of brazil, argentina, etc but can’t even ve a friendly with neighbors guess what south africa managed to win only 1 game last month out of 11 outings! Why? they think playing far far far away with light skinned people will make them Africa’s soccer house! Alas! They only qualify thrru hosting! So Ghana go play Kazakstans just to boost your morale!

  18. Zash says:

@ndola i can just picture how ugly u look behind dat pc.@ goldwyns When did u guys start running ur mouths in football? U tink u hv arrived? The pharoahs of egypt, swept evrythin but r stil struggln to make it to the w.c, so pls dnt be haughty ok? The end’ll surely justifiers the means.

  19. Zash says:

sorry the end will surely justifer the means……… folk these. hoodlums

  20. kimco says:

wow… Some bad blood here. Aside from the insults though, the zambians are right on one thing; black stars is overrated now and it getting to our heads, and fail to see our faults cos everyone says we are a GREAT team, we don’t look like champion material. They (Zambians) can talk big now because they are african champions. we should stop bragging about 30years glory and admit we need to step up and stop jumping for joy when players like asamoah gyan come back to the team. I mean we weren’t scoring goals before he left why do we think this will change when he’s back?
On topic, china’s football is growing but ofcos i agree with u people, playing african teams will do us a whole lot better even if it still doesn’t help our fifa rankings, infact we really shouldn’t be thinking about fifa ranking but rather building the team steadily, ala uruguay.
And to the zambians, please why don’t we be civilised in here, i always see that you guys always want to get into arguments here. Get a grip of urselves, you have won just ONE african cup of nations. Please let our ears rest. Thank you

  21. apartamentos Barcelona says:

Thank you for the auspicious writeup. It in reality was a leisure account it. Look complicated to more delivered agreeable from you! However, how can we be in contact?
