Ghana defender Jerry Akaminko was pivotal in defence for little-fancied Eskisehirspor as they stunned Turkish Super Lig leader Fenerbahce 2-1 in a league match on Saturday.

His performance at the heart of the defence will delight Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah who is sweating over the fitness of first-choice Isaac Vorsah for the World Cup in June.

Akaminko was the towering defender for the home side stopping the attacking threat of Dirk Kuyt, Pieere Webo and Moussa Sow who were in attack for Fenerbahce.

Henri Bienvenu put the host in front in the 28th minute and, even though Dirk Kuyt levelled three minutes before the break, Erkan Zengin snatched the winner seven minutes from time.

Despite its third loss of the campaign, Fener still remains well clear at the top, 10 points ahead of nearest rival Galatasaray, which now has a game in hand.
