Ghana defender Baba Abdul Rahman wants assurances of regular first team football before moving to Chelsea, sources have told GHANAsoccernet.com.

The 20-year-old is wanted by the English champions but Augsburg’s demands of a £15m seems to be putting off the Blues.

Rahman is a full blown Ghana international who is also considered one of the leading performers in the Bundesliga.

And while a move to Chelsea will clearly be a step up in his career, the left-back has fears he would be left to rot on the bench.

The former Greuther Furth man is being lined up as a replacement for Felipe Luis who only joined last summer from Atletico Madrid but struggled for regular playing time.

Chelsea’s other Ghanaian signing Christian Atsu is even yet to make his first team debut for the Blues since he was signed from Porto in 2013.

The youngster has been farmed out on two successive loan stints to Vitesse and then Everton and will be playing at newly promoted Bournemouth at the start of the new campaign in yet another loan spell.

Rahman with all these precedence fears a dream move to Stamford Bridge could turn into a nightmare to his thriving career.

His manager Kurt Okraku had told GHANAsoccernet.com two months ago they were not obsessed to selling the defender to a bigger club only for him to struggle.

“As a team, looking back, we have taken the best of decisions for the boy,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“In the beginning, one would have sold him and made millions of euros and millions of pounds.

“Because there was Chelsea, there was Anderlecht, there was Arsenal, there was Man City, there was a small club called Greuther Furth and we decided he goes to the club that offered him the best of opportunities.

“And I think today, we all stand as victors in this project.”

Rahman’s management are thus looking at alternative offers including the prospect of the player remaining at Augsburg for at least one more season.
