Ghana defender Boye demands Rennes starting place

Published on: 10 February 2012

By Patrick Akoto

Ghana defender John Boye is optimistic his impressive display at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations will earn him a regular spot at club level.

The Stade Rennes defender has been a revelation at the tournament with solid defensive performances.

The 24-year-old believes his Nations Cup travails at the Nations Cup will confirm his position as a starter for the French Ligue 1 side.

"Yes of course, I believe my coach and the people have seen what I can do and so I remain positive I will play more," Boye said.

"It's the coach's decision but I also believe in myself that I can offer something to the team and if you at my performance, I am not I did badly.

"I am going back to be my team with renewed confidence to play my part if I'm selected."

Boye is suspended for Ghana's third-place match against Mali due to yellow card accumulation.

Absolutely delightful. The scoop of the goal bound ball alone is enough to get any coach attention and starting place. Brilliant.

BREAKING NEWS! Ghana Coach Plavi fired! Source - *******************************************Malabo, Feb. 10, GNA -The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will not renew the two year contract of the Black Stars Coach, Goran Stevanovic which expires next month. An impeccable source at the GFA told the GNA Sport in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea that the Serb will not be given another opportunity with the Black Stars. The sources said Stevanovic's last assignment with the Black Stars will be the Federation of International Football Association's (FIFA) international game against Chile later in the month in the United States of America (USA). “His contract will not be renewed. But for the international game against Chile, he will have been allowed to leave right after the Africa Cup of Nations.” Stevanovic promised to deliver Ghana a Nations Cup trophy after a three decade wait when he was contracted as coach almost two years ago and declared that it was time for Ghana to start winning trophies again. Subsequently, the coach said he will resign if he was unable to back his words with action. However, it appears his failure to annex the trophy will not be the only reason he will either jump to avoid the push or hang on until his contract expires in March. The source said apart from Stevanovic's inability to deliver the trophy, there were other issues that made his stay almost no longer welcome. It is believed the Coach's supposed ego play with Kelvin Prince Boateng before the latter called time off his international football and some decisions he took with the inclusion and exclusion of some players during the build up to the tourney had made him a bit unpopular. Meanwhile, information pieced together by GNA Sports indicates that the GFA may consider breaking the cycle of foreign coaches by finally settling for a local one. Who said Boye wasn't a regular starter for Rennes before the AFCON, Mr Patrick Akoto check ya facts well. He has been a regular for Rennes in the French Ligue 1 and the Europa league this season until he sustained an injury during an Europa league game, he was suspended for three Ligue 1 games for a straight red card but returned to the starting line-up after his suspension, he's been a better player since he was promoted to the first team in 2010.

@ kojo moscow, Ur really stupid to start throwing insult at some one, may bee u and the writer need to check ur fact b4 u start insulting some one apparently u have no idea whats going on in the football scene, or because u leave in Russia,U around people that cant speak or write english, so u lack information. Like maxwell said he is a regular player for Rennes, thats how black stars discover him after GSN publish several news about him wining some of his champions league games. Dont where Patrick Akoto got that info about boye saying that.

To be a starter in the French league polish your game. Avoid silly yellow cards, clean up your tackles and you will be a starter not only for Rennes but you will be playing in the Premier league. I love your game for the Black Stars, for the African cup you might get away with some of the raw play but for Europe you have to clean it up a bit.

@ kojo Moscow, you have really surprised me with this silly comment and unwarranted attack on Maxwell. Go to the Rennes web site and read about Boye. He has been a regular until he sustained an injury. Do you believe Boye ever uttered that comment or someone somewhere on the GSN wanted to be sensational? After checking your facts, sit down alone and give yourself a head knock. You are the fool here.

@kojo. john was regular before his injury. returning back, his team had another returnee (apam) who came back from a long time layoff and was playing in the same position so boye was then used mainly for europa league. he might make such a comment because he doesnt play every game. kojo ur comment was too hard on marxwel nd very bad.

it's obvious you all don't know football. it was foreign coaches that took us to the World cup for the first time, not local coaches. We won Afcon then with local coaches because competition was not there like today. ivory coast can have a local coach because they have superior players. Keep Plavi

It has not been officially announced yet. This is mere speculation, so why the rush to publish it as if it the truth? These journalists are at it again! Trust me, this will be debunked by the GFA.
