Ghana defender Edwin Gyiamh played his fourth game on the spin for Orlando Pirates this year but his side suffered a 1-2 defeat at the hands of title chasing Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pirates coach Eric Tinkler paired Gyimah with Thablo Matlaba at the heart of defence for the must win game against Pitso Mosimane’e high flying Sundowns but there was only one winner on the day with Sundowns winning at the iconic Orlando Stadium.

Goals from Colombian forward David Leonardo and Zimbabwe international Khama Billiat gave Sundowns a two goal lead in the first half but South Africa international Mpho Makola scored on the 69th minute to reduce the deficit for Pirates.

Gyimah’s performance on the day will come as a delight to Eric Tinkler who had to rely on the 24-year-old to keep the score line respectable.
