Ghana defender Boye's injury serious than initially feared

Ghana defender John Boye's injury is serious than initially feared as will sit out of action for six weeks due to a thigh injury, GHANAsoccernet.com can confirm.

The centre-back was replaced after 21 minutes when he picked up the injury in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Saint-Etienne at home.

His club coach had said after the game that he will bew out of action for three weeks.

But a MRI scan on Monday night revealed that he suffered a muscle tear in his left thigh.

The 24-year-old had replaced injured Kader Mangane in the Rennes starting line-up.

The former Heart of Lions ace will miss Ghana's vital 2012 Nations qualifier against Sudan on 8 October and a friendly against Nigeria three days later.

Boye has played been a starter in Rennes' last six matches in all competitions.
