Stade Rennes are preparing a replacement for John Boye as the Ghana defender looks set to leave the French club this summer after refusing to renew his contract at the club.

The 27-year-old is out of contract this summer but has refused to extend his stay with the Red and Blacks as he eyes a big move elsewhere especially with the 2014 World Cup fast on the horizon.

The Black Stars’ defender was restricted to just 10 Ligu 1 appearances this season with injury taking its toll on him.

He however returned to make a strong finish to the season to put himself in good shape to excel for Ghana at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

Rennes coach Philippe Montanier has resigned himself to losing the hard-tackling defender and is already planning for his replacement.

“I want to strengthen us in every line. We are looking for two defenders to compensate for departures Boye and Emerson,” Montanier revealed.

Boye has grown to be an integral member of the Ghana squad since bursting onto the scene at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

An excellent display at the World Cup in Brazil will put him right in the mix for big money move to a top European club.
