Ghana defender John Boye wins Player of the Month award at Rennes

Ghana defender John Boye has been named Stade Rennes’ player of the month for the first time.

The Ghana international is being rewarded with the accolade for his impressive performances for the side since the French League’s opening day.

The 25-year-old has started all but one game for Rennes this term.

Boye garnered 118 votes representing 45.5% of the total votes to beat closest contender Jean-Armal Kana-Biyik who raked in 63 votes representing 24.3%.

The former Heart of Lions stopper was also adjudged the club’s ‘Hermine’ for August 2012 – an accolade voted for by the fans on a monthly basis through social networking site, Facebook, for excellent performances.

Boye is already being touted as a strong contender for the accolade for the month of September even before the contest starts.

The tactful defender has seen a tremendous surge in both his club an international form in the past one year.

He emerged as one of the best players for Ghana at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabin and Equatorial Guinea.

He is currently the first choice central defender for the Black Stars.

3. Yann M'Vila: 26 votes (10%)

4. Benedict Costil: 12 votes (4.6%)

5. Mevlut Erding: 8 votes (3%)

5. Vincent Pajot: 8 votes (3%)

7. Romain Danze: 7 votes (2.7%)

7. Sadio Diallo: 7 votes (2.7%)

9. Jonathan Pitroipa: 6 votes (2.3%)

10. Kévin Théophile-Catherine: 4 votes (1.5%)
