Ghana defender John Mensah boosted his chances of making the Black Stars World Cup squad in June as he made his second successive start in the Slovakian top-flight on Saturday.

Mensah, who is recovering a serious back operation which forced his one-year absence, was in action in FC Nitra's 2-1 defeat to Senica.

His continuous playing time for the Slovakian side will boost his chances of gaining the needed fitness for him to play for Ghana at the World Cup.

The Black Stars defender was playing his second straight game just under a fortnight after joining Trograri on a short-term deal.

Mensah however suffered another defeat with his new side who are facing a battle to stay up in the Super Liga.

The Black Stars defender was substituted in the 73rd minute after Senica had pulled even.

Kostelny had given Nitra a third minute lead which was cancelled out by Opiela in the 68th minute.

Senica left it late to win the match as Piroska struck in the 80th minute to clinch all three points at stake.

Despite the defeat, the gradual playing time for Mensah bodes well for Ghana as he could gain full fitness ahead of the World Cup.
