Jonathan Mensah has been widely speculated to join move to Turkey

Turkish top-flight side Gaziantepspor are seeking to sign Jonathan Mensah on loan just hours after the Ghana defender extended his contract with French club Evian, GHANAsoccernet.com can reveal.

The 25-year-old penned a one-year contract extension with relegated French side Evian on Monday just before the deadline for the France window closed.

Evian are now on the verge of agreeing to loan out Ghanaian central defender Gaziantepspor with the Turkish transfer window still open.

Mensah's proposed move to Gaziantepspor is what has delayed the arrival of Mensah in the Ghana camp ahead of their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Rwanda on Saturday.

The 25-year signed the one-year extension on Monday night just before the French transfer window shut, Ghana's leading football news website can exclusively reveal.

Mensah signed the extension with Evian even though there are several other clubs keen on signing the Ghana international defender after the club was relegation at the end of last season.

The defender opted to sign for Evian as a mark of commitment to the club who stood resolutely with him when he was banned by FIFA over a transfer issue.

Several clubs in Europe particularly in Turkey were keen on him but he wants Evian to benefit if he seals a move to one of the Turkish clubs.

Mensah joined Udinese from Free State Stars in South Africa after impressing for Ghana during their 2009 World Youth Cup victory.

However, Mensah struggled to get into the Italian team and instead spent time on loan at Granada before his transfer to Evian.

He is wanted by Turkish clubs and with the Turkey window still open he could move despite still serving a ban.
