Ghana defender Lee Addy has debunked claims he is certain of a Black Stars place for the 2014 World Cup.
The defender was quoted in the Croatian press as having said he is 99 percent sure of making the Ghana squad for the World Cup in Brazil.
Addy was said to have told Jutamji he has received assurances from coach Kwesi Appiah following a meeting with him while on holidays in Ghana.
The report caused a massive stir in Ghana with players still jostling for positions in the Black Stars team especially after coach Appiah revealed he is mighty close to finalizing his squad for the tournament which kicks off in June.
The Dinamo Zagreb player has however denied making such assured comments of his place in the Black Stars team ahead of the World Cup.
ââ¬ÅI was surprised when I read the story on the websites because I had never granted such an interview,â⬠he told Accra-based Montie FM.
ââ¬ÅI had not met coach Kwesi Appiah while I was in Ghana let alone get assurances from him that I will be in the World Cup squad.
ââ¬ÅAll I know is that while I keep playing regularly, I might get the chance to play for Ghana.
ââ¬ÅSo it will be strange for me to grant such an interview as places for World Cup spots are still up for grabs.ââ¬
Addy played for Ghana at the last World Cup four years ago in South Africa.
The 23-year-old is eyeing a Black Stars call up following his consistent displays in the Croatian top flight for Dinamo Zagreb â⬓ with whom he won the league and cup double last season.
