Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila came on as a second half substitute to help Mamelodi Sundowns to a crucial 1-0 win at Moroka Swallows on Saturday.

The vital win extends the lead of the Brazilians at the top of the South African top flight with main title rivals Kaizer Chiefs having two games in hand.

Sumaila came on at the start of the second half to replace Alje Schut in the game played in Johannesburg.

The Black Stars contributed his bid to a resolute defensive performance in the second half to ensure the three points were safe for Pitso Mosimane’s side.

Sundowns have now stretched their lead to 61 points but have played two games more than closest contenders Kaizer Chiefs who are on 55 points with just two games left.

This means Sundowns remain in the driving seat for the championship which will go all the way to the final game of the season.
