Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila is trying to negotiate his way out of South African side Mamelodi Sundowns after failing to move abroad during the recently closed transfer window.
The Ghana international is not playing with the rest of the first team, as the Brazilians have already exhausted their foreign quota for the season.
The former Kotoko defender wants to leave the club to ensure that he gets playing time to keep fit for challenges ahead.
"It's a complex situation, but the two parties are trying to reach a financial settlement for the player to move on, because it is clear that he will not be used this season," revealed the source told Goal.
"I'm sure the club (Sundowns) will make an official statement once everything has been finalised," added the source.
Despite his involvement in the team's success last season where he made 21 appearances in all competitions, Sumaila was not registered for this season, as the Tshwane giants were hoping that he would move before the end of August.
Goal broke the news of Sundowns considering an offer from a Turkish club that was keen on Sumaila's services in August.
However, the offer was reportedly deemed "not good enough" by the Brazilians and the proposed deal collapsed.
Now, with Sumaila eager to cut ties with the reigning PSL champions, he will be eligible to sign with a team of choice should he agree terms with Sundowns.
Two other players - Tiyani Mabunda and Edward Manqele - are also not happy with their situation at the club as Goal reported a few days ago, and it remains to be seen if Sundowns will eventually release them.
