Black Stars have been wonderful with their play at the World Cup, says Kanoute

After two rounds of matches played, 2007 African Footballer of the Year Frederic Kanoute says Ghana, and not Nigeria, are proving to be the best of the West African powerhouses in Brazil.

Ghana and Nigeria kept their Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup interest alive on Saturday after memorable performances in their respective penultimate group phase matches.

The Black Stars held three-time champions Germany to a dramatic 2-2 draw while Nigeria beat debutants' Bosnia-Herzegovina 1-0 in Saturday’s final kick-off.

Kanoute told Al Jazeera English TV on Sunday that Asamoah Gyan will be key to Ghana's progress at the tournament and the same too for Emmanuel Emenike with Nigeria.

"I think Ghana has the best side the better football," Kanoute said.

"Ghana for me is the best african side for me so far, they have got everything; they have the energy , the youth, they have got the composure and a leading figure like (Sulley) Muntari who has helped the young players.

"For me it is not a fluke at all if they are here now."

Ghana have one point in Group G three behind leaders Germany ahead of their last game against Portugal on June 26 in Brasilia.

Nigeria on the other hand are second in Group F on four points, two behind Argentina whom they face in their final preliminary round tie on June 25 in Porto Alegre.

"But Nigeria though they played much better (against Bosnia), they had more linked play between the lines but still they are a little bit scrappy and use a lot of strength to be able to do something," Kanoute said

"With Emmanuel Emenike how can you not use the strength? Because he is such a beast.

"We have seen it is because of his strength that they were able to score a goal."
