Mensah is shocked over Meyiwa's murder

Ghana defender Jonathan Mensah has expressed his shock and sadness at the murder of South Africa goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa whom he played with in the Premier Soccer League while playing for Free State Stars.

Mensah expressed his outrage at the death of the Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain, who was gunned down in Vosloorus in the south of Johannesburg last night.

Reports says the goalkeeper died while protecting his girlfriend from robbers who were bent on stealing her mobile phone.

This has shocked Mensah who played in the South Africa top-flight just at the time Meyiwa was honing his career at Pirates.

"We mourn the death of this young footballer and team leader whose life has been taken away at the prime of his career," Mensah said.

"The law enforcement authorities must leave no stone unturned in finding his killers and bring them to justice. Words cannot express my shock at this loss.

"I wish to extend, on behalf of my colleagues in the Black Stars and all the people of South Africa, our words of condolence to his family and relatives, his friends and peers in the football game, his club Orlando Pirates and his national soccer team as well as the football fraternity as a whole. May his soul rest in peace."

The Evian Thonon defender played in the South African League during the 2008/9 league season for Free State Stars and believes football will not be the same without Meyiwa in the Premier Soccer League( PSL)
