The Ghana FA have agreed to the proposal from the Sports Ministry to use portions of the financial gains from the 2014 World Cup to develop other sports.

The Sports Ministry plans to use portions of the World Cup money to elevate structures at the Ghanaman School of Excellence into a five star hotel to be used by the various national teams.

This will help to significantly beat down the exorbitant camping cost for the national teams before major assignments.

There are plans to also use portions of the gains to build a modern boxing gymnasium in Bukom – the boxing hub of Ghana while also refurbishing the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex to cater for the other sporting disciplines such as swimming, volleyball, basketball and lawn tennis.

The Ghana FA insists it is in agreement with the proposals made Sports Ministry to use the financial gains from the World Cup – which is primarily used for the development of football – to resource the development of other sports.

“The proposal from the sports ministry over the disbursement of the World Cup money is acceptable to the Ghana FA,” GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi said at a press conference on Wednesday.

“The part for football will be used to develop football while government’s portion will be used to develop the other sports so I don’t see anything wrong with that.”
